The total costs of diagnosed diabetes in 2012 was 245 billion according to the recently released report “Economic Costs of Diabetes in the US 2012” commissioned by the American Diabetes Association.
Yes – you read that right 245 billion! The report states this figure includes “$176 billion in direct medical cost and $69 billion in reduced productivity” (Diabetes Care, Volume 36, April 2013 pg 1033)
